Clarity Eye and Face logo
There are distinct facial features around the eyelids and brows that differentiate men and women. These differences are subtle, but they can impact your overall appearance significantly. Dr. Choe’s extensive experience as an oculoplastic surgeon and her years of studying facial anatomy allow her to craft results that enhance or restore an alert, youthful expression for her patients while maintaining gender differences. Whether it is a blepharoplasty or brow lift, she will adapt techniques to still provide impressive results while maintaining your natural appearance.

What Is Male Blepharoplasty?

Male blepharoplasty addresses the same signs of aging and cosmetic concerns as traditional blepharoplasty. However, the techniques and structural goals are adapted to preserve a masculine appearance to the eyes. For example, the male eyelid tends to be naturally heavier than a woman’s. So this is accounted for by a more conservative removal of excess skin. Likewise, eye shape is preserved and rounding of the eye is minimized. At the same time, the procedure results in a younger-looking appearance and a more alert feel to the eyes.

What Is a Male Brow Lift?

Similarly, a male brow lift addresses the same signs of aging and cosmetic concerns as traditional brow lift with the aim of preserving a masculine appearance to the eyes. For example, the male brow tends to be lower and flatter than a woman’s. The peak or highest point of the male brow also tends to be more lateral. Dr. Choe will carefully craft her incisions to maintain your natural appearance while subtly and artfully improving your appearance.

Male Eyelid Surgery Overview

Dr. Choe begins by marking the surgical area and giving the patient local anesthetic. Though you will be awake for the procedure, you will not feel any pain. She then creates incisions to adjust the eyelid’s appearance via a combination of:
  • Removing excess skin
  • Repositioning key tissues
  • Removing pockets of fat
A typical procedure will take less than 2 hours. Since this is an outpatient surgery, you can return home on the same day. However, you will need someone to drive you home.

Is a Male Eyelid Lift Right for Me?

If you are concerned about signs of aging around the eyes, male blepharoplasty or brow lift is likely right for you. You can achieve a younger, more alert appearance while still maintaining a masculine look. Start with a consultation with Dr. Choe to explore procedure options and learn about the details that distinguish male blepharoplasty from traditional methods.

Alternatives to Male Blepharoplasty

While male eyelid surgery is highly effective, not all patients may want to commit to surgery. Dr. Choe also provides a suite of nonsurgical options that can be adapted to enhance or maintain masculine features. These options can produce effects such as skin tightening, restoration of lost volume, dark circles removal, and more.

What Is the Recovery Like After Male Blepharoplasty?

Week 1: Most patients take this time off from work while the swelling and bruising fade. Adhere closely to the post-procedure instructions provided. Some discomfort is normal, but most patients manage this with even OTC pain medication (e.g., acetaminophen).

Week 2: Most patients return to work and can resume lighter physical activities. Swelling and bruising should continue to fade.

Week 3 & Beyond: Based on your follow-up visits with Dr. Choe, you can gradually return to your full routine. She may provide additional instructions or information on how your healing is progressing.

When Will I See the Results?

Initially, swelling and bruising will obscure your results. The lids may look heavier or thicker during this time, but this will soon change. Most of the swelling has faded by the end of the third week, and you will be able to see your initial results. However, all residual swelling will need to fade before you can see your final results. Typically, this takes a few months. While this swelling is not noticeable, your eyelid will settle into its final shape only once it fades.
