Hyaluronidase (Dissolve Fillers)

Clarity Eye and Face logo

While hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are a great nonsurgical option to rejuvenate the face, sometimes fillers need to be dissolved due to lumpy appearance, infection, or nodules. Dr. Christina Choe provides an effective way to safely dissolve fillers using hyaluronidase for patients in the Western North Carolina area. If you have issues with your fillers and want to reverse the effects of dermal fillers, she can provide an effective solution.

What Is Hyaluronidase?

Hyaluronidase is a medication that can be injected to dissolve fillers. It works by breaking down the filler into smaller particles, allowing rapid absorption of the filler by the body. The tear trough or under eye area is a common area where fillers may need to be dissolved, as filler in this delicate area can swell causing lower eyelid swelling or bags. This can happen due to a few reasons, including:

  • Excessive hydration of the filler (hyaluronic acid is hydrophilic or water loving so will attract water with time)
  • Migration of the filler due to muscle movement, causing the filler to become more superficial and visible
  • Inflammatory reaction causing nodules

Reasons Patients Want to Reverse Dermal Fillers

Working with an experienced physician is the best way to promote safety and lasting benefits for filler treatments. However, patients may want to dissolve fillers for a number of reasons, including:

  • Fixing the effects of over-filling (when too much filler was used)
  • Restoring their original appearance due to dissatisfaction with their results
  • Correcting effects such as bumps, nodules, or asymmetry
  • Alleviating the effects of a reaction to fillers

What Is the Treatment Like?

Hyaluronidase injections are performed with a small, fine needle. Dr. Choe will carefully inject the hyaluronidase into the treatment sites and customize the treatment to the response she is getting. Patients may experience a slight pinch and a burn when the medication is injected.

How Soon Will Hyaluronidase Start Working?

The effects of hyaluronidase injections begin working immediately, and most patients will see its effects within 24 hours. However, in some cases, multiple injections are needed to achieve the desired result. Your individual plan will depend on the amount of filler to be dissolved and what you want your results to look like.
