What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Leaving intact columns of skin has been found to reduce the risk for complications and speed the healing process. As the new skin heals, collagen is stimulated by the wound healing process and it can have profound effects on skin texture, tone, fine lines, and wrinkles.

What Is a Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment Like?
To perform CO2 laser resurfacing, numbing cream is applied and numbing injections are performed on the areas to be treated. This is an outpatient procedure (you may go home the same day). Protective eye shields are placed to protect your eyes from the light energy. Dr. Choe then applies the laser device over the treatment area, carefully delivering a precise amount of energy to each spot.
Recovery & Downtime After Treatment
Healing typically takes 7-10 days. You can expect some swelling and redness, similar to a sunburn, and to have crusting and peeling. This all will gradually fade, but most patients prefer to take time off from work until it resolves. The upper layer of skin will eventually flake off, which is part of the normal process. Then the healthier and improved skin beneath will be visible and it is common to have a “rosy glow” for a few months after. That is a sign of continued collagen stimulation, and you will continue to see improvements in the skin texture and quality for months after the procedure.
When Can I See Laser Skin Resurfacing Results?
Laser skin resurfacing produces gradual but impressive results. Following treatment, you can expect continued improvement to happen over months as collagen builds under the skin. Even a single session should produce notable results, but some patients will need 2 to 5 treatment sessions to achieve their goals. The number needed will depend on the specific concerns you have and the results you want to see. When this procedure is performed by a skilled physician, patients can expect results to last up to a couple of years. Once results begin to fade, patients can come in for an occasional touch-up treatment to keep their skin looking at its best.
